TheInternational Summer School in Anthropology and Ethnography (ISSAE) is designed to be itinerant. Each year a different locality and/or area of Sardinia will is selected, with priority given to municipalities and towns where ethnographic museums, ecomuseums, and activities related to the study, conservation, and enhancement of cultural heritage, particularly anthropological heritage, are located or being developed.
For each edition, ISSAE offers a program focused on theoretical, epistemological, and methodological issues in demo-ethno-anthropological sciences. Scholars and experts (both Italian and international) are invited to deliver lectures on topics and issues that are particularly relevant to field research theory and practice. In addition to lectures and other seminars and workshops, the
training program includes group work sessions grounded in experience, observation, and ethnographic practices on specific research topics.

LIVING SUSTAINABILITY AND HERITAGE
The first edition of the ISSAE school took place in Gavoi, Nuoro, a municipality rich in history in the Barbagia of Ollolai, well known for its local artisan and commercial traditions, for sheep breeding and the production of the ‘Fiore Sardo dei pastori’, a raw milk sheep’s cheese (Slow Food Presidium), and more recently also for hosting an international literary festival now in its 17th edition (L’Isola delle Storie), conceived among others by Giulio Angioni, a famous Sardinian writer and anthropologist.
The training activities of the first edition of the ISSAE Summer School focused on themes, issues and approaches of the anthropology and ethnography of heritage, landscape, environment and typical local productions; of social transformation processes linked to tourism development and new forms of entrepreneurship; of local development policies in the framework of the global policies of ‘sustainable development’.
